It's a Wrap for 2007-2008

The 02863Project has a summer vacation before we start up again in the next school year. Our visits to Timberland have been rewarding and it looks as though they will again support the project. This time will be much easier as we know the teacher, the process, and have all the materials.

We raised over $10,000 for the project and awarded three $1000 scholarships that will be renewable for a second year. The funds are for books and art supplies - an increasing cost for college students and a barrier to many who have worked hard to get to college and put together packages of grants and loans to further their education.

Thanks to all who supported the project and I look forward to seeing the boots on the streets in Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, New York and many other states.

hi. my name is andrea. i am a young struggling artist living in the newport area. i have recently posted some of my most up to date art online on my facebook page. my friend from high school came upon my images and turned me onto this site. can i just say.. wow. bravo! what a beautiful project you have going here. the image my friend came across is of a shoe that i iam working on. i have worked trial and error understanding materials that work on a shoe and how i can make them sustainable, water proof, and wearable. they are really rad so far... but i always have other projects going on so i have yet to finish them. one side of one of the shoes i am impressed with and in love with and it took me a very long time to get there. current materials include yarn, metal discs, key chains, loaded layers of string, copper wire, fantastic strong glue that can keep it all molded, rubber gloves for my extreme glue handling fingers and hands.. and much more. if anyone is curious about my shoe process. post it here and i'll find a way to show you what i've spent many hours achieving so far. i warn you- it is not a complete pair of shoes right now. but so far people are intrigued. a pair of shoes like this would be priceless. to me it is a new canvas and a new way of understanding art and expressing through and appreciating art. my friend's mother has said participated in the event that i am reading about on this website. i believe her last name is touhey? bravo team! there are a lot of beautiful shoes here.
